Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She is also a seasoned public speaker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on the representation of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site to educate women about their roles in pop culture narratives was the result of her research. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture she also works to highlight issues related to targeted exploitation of women and the other marginalized groups of individuals in the internet world. With a master's in political and social thought at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaking engagement and has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. When she was a student at the university she became fascinated by the issue of gender equality and the rights of women at an early stage. She was a young woman with a dream to develop a series of web videos to examine the gender representations in games. However, she became the target of cyber-bullying. She was not deterred by the assault, in fact it only reinforced her desire to become a media critic and feminist. To honor the numerous contributions she has made to feministism, she's the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a journalist. She also serves as the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
